Start with the basics
Don’t run before you can walk, and only buy what you really need. Basic equipment can consist of a drill-screw machine, a sander and a circular saw. All those other tempting power tools can wait.
Consciously choose battery or mains power
Cordless tools give you the freedom to work anywhere without an annoying cord getting in the way. For professionals, cordless is increasingly the first choice. But is that also the case for you? Mains powered tools have their own advantages. They often deliver more power than a battery model, and you have a better quality machine for the same price. Moreover, you do not have to worry about the maintenance and storage of the battery. When you rarely work with a machine especially, an investment in a model that works on mains power can be sensible.
Choose one brand
Most of our professional customers stick to one brand. That is a matter of personal preference and trust, but it also has a practical side. In general, the batteries are interchangeable between tools of the same brand. Not only does this save money, but it also becomes easier to keep all machines charged and ready to use.
Think forward

Compare what’s included
Compare the price, performance, and accessories included between different machines. It can make a big difference whether a machine is offered ‘bare’ or with a complete set of accessories. Such an all-in version is a good choice, especially for novice do-it-yourselfers.
Ask advice
Undoubtedly, the tips we give here can help you, but nothing beats first-hand experience. Talk to more experienced DIY’ers, read reviews and see what pros are buying. They have different requirements than you, but when they are enthusiastic about a certain brand, you can rest assured that the quality is more than adequate for your purpose.
Register your purchases
