In the world of logistics, packaging solutions are a crucial consideration for increased sustainability. Packaging tape might not be the first thing you think of when it comes to making packaging more sustainable. But every little bit helps, and adhesive tape can certainly contribute to a more sustainable packaging solution. Therefore, choosing a more sustainable packaging tape makes sense. That’s why tesa is launching its new sustainable packaging tapes under the modest but apt motto: “Makes sense.”

Seven sustainable tapes

tesa, a global market leader in tapes for professional applications, has developed a range of seven film and paper-based packaging tapes with a more sustainable composition. With these new products, tesa offers distributors and industrial end-users more options to support their sustainability agendas.

tesa’s wide range meets all requirements.

tesa’s range of sustainable packaging tapes caters to various packaging applications. Five paper tapes have a broad application scope for manual or automatic use. Not only do these tapes offer reliable closure for different weight categories, but also different colours and printability for brand presentation purposes.

tesa® 60408, to name one example is a strong tape that provides an excellent solution for light and medium-weight packaging applications. The paper used for the backing comes from certified, well-managed forests or other controlled sources. This tape consists of 92% bio-based carbon and is certified by DIN CERTCO with the highest status.

Two film-based packaging tapes complete tesa’s range of sustainable packaging tapes. The film-based packaging tapes use two innovative backing materials. Post-consumer recycled (PCR) PET and PLA form solid and more sustainable solutions, offering additional transparent options for medium to heavy packages.

An example from the film-based range is tesa 60412 Recycled PET packaging tape — tesa’s first carton sealing tape with 70% PCR PET in the backing. This tape can be printed with most types of ink systems, an added benefit for customers when printing their packaging. This film-based tape has been tested according to INGEDE Method 12, ensuring its recycling friendliness.

No compromises on quality

A critical consideration in developing the new packaging tapes was that they should not fall short in quality compared to the existing products in the tesa assortment. An extensive testing program and high-quality standards in product development guarantee users that there is no difference between the performance of sustainable and traditional tesa tapes.
