Bosch rotary hammer

The largest power tool brands, ranked by revenue and brand value.

  • Bosch

The oldest brand in this ranking – since 1886 – is also the largest. Bosch had a worldwide turnover of 77 billion euros in 2020. Incidentally, this figure is not only due to the power tools of this German brand. Bosch is also active in, among other things, automotive products and household appliances. Bosch’s power tool division supplies a wide range of professional power tools, garden tools, power tool accessories and measurement technology. Bosch makes a clear distinction between professional tools and hobby tools and markets two product lines: Bosch Blue and Bosch Green.

  • DEWALT

DEWALT table saw

With a turnover of 4.5 billion euros in 2020, DEWALT follows the number 1 by a distance, but this American manufacturer focuses exclusively on professional power tools and hand tools. As part of Stanley Black & Decker, DEWALT is the company’s spearhead in the professional market. View the extensive DEWALT range here.

  • Makita

Makita lawnmower

The Japanese brand Makita owes its popularity mainly to cordless tools, such as cordless screwdrivers, cordless impact wrenches, cordless rotary hammers, and cordless jigsaws. Besides professional power tools for construction and industry, Makita makes garden tools and measuring tools.

  • Milwaukee

Milwaukee drill

Milwaukee is especially big in the home market, the US. The Milwaukee Electric Tool Corporation is a subsidiary of Techtronic Industries, a Chinese company that also includes AEG, Ryobi and Hoover. Milwaukee manufactures an extensive range of professional power and battery tools, hand tools and combination kits.

  • Black & Decker

The number 5 in the ranking of the largest tool brands focuses mainly on the hobby market, which is why you will not find this brand in the Klium range. The history of this American manufacturer goes back to 1910 and generations of handymen started with a Black & Decker drill.

How important is the brand?

Turnover figures and brand value of course say something about quality, but they do not say everything. Apart from outsider Black & Decker, the top 5 brands provide a comparable range, with comparable options and warranty conditions, for comparable prices. Brand preference is personal: if you are satisfied with a certain brand, there is no reason to switch. Loyalty to a brand also has practical advantages, such as a battery platform, where you only need one battery for all your power tools.
