Bring new colours into your home life
Painting is the simplest and most effective way to renew your interior. You can quickly and easily create a whole new atmosphere with a brush or roller. A different colour can make a room appear larger, warmer, or lighter. Here are a few tips:
- Colours have a perceived temperature. We naturally experience them as warm or cold. Do you choose warm or cold wall paint colours? Look at the function of the space. Cooler colours often work better in a more active room, such as the hall or kitchen. In a passive room, such as the bedroom, you mainly want to relax, and it is better to use warmer colours.
- If you want to make a room appear larger, use light colours that reflect the light. Satin paint can also have a magnifying effect because the light is better reflected.
- If you really want to be sure whether your favourite colour is also the right choice, paint a large sheet of paper in the desired colour and stick it on the wall for a few days. Assess the chosen colour both during the day and under artificial light.
Play with light
Especially on dark winter days, well-chosen lighting brings warmth and atmosphere. Before buying new lamps, you should know what you want to achieve with the lighting. Where do you need more light to work, which dark corner needs to be brightened up, and where do you want to soften that harsh light? A good lighting plan combines four types of lighting.
- Basic lighting: light that illuminates the room evenly, for example, a ceiling lamp or ceiling spotlights.
- Functional lighting: concentrated light in one place, for example, a desk lamp or a spot above the worktop in the kitchen.
- Mood lighting: soft and warm light, for example, a table lamp
- Accent lighting: lighting concentrated in one place to emphasize a beautiful element, such as a painting or a houseplant.
Get rid of annoyances
Although this is not considered a very fun job to do, the outcome is surely rewarding. Use the Christmas holidays to finally do something about the things that have been a thorn in your side for some time.
