Stands and material supports for saws on site

A stand puts the saw at working height and carries the workpiece with it, and the second part is where long stock catches people out. A mitre saw on a trestle cuts fine until the workpiece starts to sag. From that moment the cut runs out of square and the blade binds.

The first choice is the mounting. Machine-specific stands fit one saw series and clamp on in seconds, with the saw locked solidly in place. Universal frames work with adjustable brackets and take a range of machines, which pays off where the kit on site keeps changing.

Then look at the material supports. Extending arms carry long stock on both sides and hold it in the plane of the cut. A length stop makes repeat cuts possible without marking out each time, and rollers on the supports help with heavy sheet.

Transport decides the rest. Folding models go flat in the van, wheeled versions roll to the next spot with the machine still fitted. On both, check stability once the supports are fully extended.

For plunge saws and hand-held circular saws a guide rail is the right supporting surface.
