Loose hammer handles for hammers and sledgehammers

A cracked or loose hammer handle turns reliable kit into a hazard: the head loses its line and can fly off on the next blow. Replacing a handle costs a fraction of a new hammer. The range consists of loose handles in hickory, a tough fibrous timber that absorbs shock and does not splinter at the first mis-hit. Many versions come with a matching wedge, so the head stays tight after fitting.

Choose on length and on the weight of the head. Short handles around 260 to 320 mm belong with bench and cross-pein hammers used one-handed. Lengths up to 800 mm are meant for sledgehammers, where the extra leverage supplies the striking power. Measure the eye of the head before ordering, because a handle that sits too loose cannot be wedged durably.

Gedore supplies the broadest range, alongside handles from Wiha, Wera, Facom and Milwaukee. If you also work with axes and splitting mauls, the wooden versions for those sit under axe handle.
