Clamping flanges for grinding and cutting discs
A clamping flange clamps the grinding or cutting disc squarely against the spindle of your angle grinder, so the disc runs centred and does not vibrate or wander under load. The combination of inner or backing flange and clamping nut decides whether the disc seats flat; a bent or worn flange causes wobble, faster disc wear and an unsafe cut.
The right type depends on the spindle size, usually M14, and on the disc diameter you work with, from compact 125 mm to larger 230 mm discs. For anyone who changes discs often there are quick-clamp versions you loosen and tighten without a tool. When replacing, make sure the flange and machine match, because the fit and thickness are brand and machine specific.
Brands such as Pferd, Makita, Fein and Bosch supply clamping and backing flanges as an original part or as a universal replacement. Choose the flange that belongs to the spindle size and disc diameter of your grinder, so discs keep running flat and safely.
