Cordless shears: fast, clean cuts on battery power

Cordless shears cut a range of materials such as cardboard, textile, carpet, thin sheet, rubber and film with ease. For anyone cutting all day, that is a relief compared with hand scissors: the motor takes over the squeezing force, which spares tired hands and wrists. Because the shears run on a battery, you move freely around the workpiece without a cord in the way, handy in the workshop, on site and in upholstery. Bosch, Ryobi and Makita supply versions on 4V for fine work and on 12V for tougher materials.

When choosing, look at the maximum cutting thickness and the type of material you handle, because that decides which blade or head you need. An ergonomic handle and low weight make longer work more comfortable. Also check whether the blades are replaceable or can be sharpened, so you keep the cordless shears sharp for a long time and do not need a new tool for every job on the floor.
