Choose by material first. Pipe cutters for copper come in most sizes; for stainless steel or INOX there are separate models, with a cutting wheel matched to that harder material. Do not use a copper cutter on stainless tube, because the wheel wears quickly and the cut suffers.

Next comes the maximum tube diameter. The larger models go up to 29 mm, 42 mm or 67 mm, and a wider range also means a bigger tool. For copper there are also mini pipe cutters with a range of 3 to 15, 22 or 28 mm: they fit tight spots such as a pipe close to a wall or inside a cabinet, where a full turn of a larger cutter is not possible.
