Scraper for preparing surfaces before finishing

A scraper removes paint, glue, rust and caked-on residue from flat surfaces with a sharp, sturdy cutting edge. That lets you clean substrates smooth before you paint, glue or finish. You pull or push the blade across the surface, with the sharp edge lifting the layer without cutting deep into the substrate. Versions range from narrow scrapers for detail work and corners to wide blades for clearing large surfaces fast, with working widths that differ per model.

Many models have replaceable blades and a two-component grip for purchase and comfort during longer work. Choose a stiff blade for heavy stripping and a more flexible one for smooth or curved surfaces. Watch the width, the blade thickness and whether the cutting edge can be replaced or sharpened. A blade guard keeps the edge sharp and safe in the toolbox.

Brands such as Bahco, Gedore, Stanley and Facom supply scrapers for painters, finishers and fitters. That way you prepare every surface clean and smooth for the next operation.
