Product description:
- Radial shaft seals are trailing seals used particularly for sealing oil-lubricated bearings.
- These ready-to-use elastomer seals usually have a metal reinforcement or housing
- The sealing lip is usually a nitrile rubber and is normally pressed against a contact surface on the shaft by means of a spring
- Depending on the seal material and the medium to be kept in or out, radial shaft seals can be used at temperatures between 60 and +190 °C
- The contact area between the seal lip and the contact surface is vital for the effectiveness of the seal
- The surface hardness of the contact surface should normally be at least 55 HRC, and the depth of hardening should be at least 0.3 mm
- Surface roughness according to ISO 4288:1996 should be within the guidelines of Ra = 0.2 to 0.8 mm
- In applications with low speeds, good lubrication and minimal contamination, a lower hardness can be used
- To prevent pumping of spiral grinding grooves, insert grinding is recommended
- If the radial shaft seal is to keep the lubricant inside the bearing housing, the seal should be mounted with the lip inwards
- If the main task is to keep out contaminants, the lip should point outwards
