Anchor rods for anchoring in concrete and masonry

An anchor rod is the threaded rod that is anchored into concrete with chemical mortar or a mechanical cone, and onto which the structure is then fixed. It is the connection for heavy fixing: steelwork on a foundation, brackets, pipe clamps, machine feet and facade anchors. The load capacity does not come from the rod alone, but from the combination of rod, substrate, hole and anchoring medium. Start with the substrate.

Cracked concrete, uncracked concrete, masonry and hollow block each ask for a different approach, and the approval of a system always applies to that specific combination. Then choose the diameter and embedment depth on the calculated tensile and shear load, with common sizes from M8 to M16 and rod lengths around 110 to 190 mm. Take stainless steel as soon as the connection sits outdoors, hangs in a damp room or is exposed to de-icing salt.

Drill the hole to the specified diameter and depth and clean it thoroughly, because leftover drilling dust is the most common reason an anchor falls short of its stated value. For mechanical fixing, look at anchor bolt, and for the resin at injection mortar.
