Industrial cleaners for the workshop and installation

A cleaner removes what a cloth only smears around: oil, grease, soot, adhesive residue, cured PU foam and deposits on metal. Which one you reach for depends less on how dirty something is than on what sits underneath the dirt, because a product that works well on steel can attack plastic, paint or rubber.

Three broad lines run through this range. Solvent based degreasers tackle grease and oil on metal and are the standard for brakes, bearings, chains and tools. Water based cleaners with a deep action are meant for floors, machine housings and larger surfaces and can be diluted, which brings the cost per litre down. Specific removers target a single product: PU foam, silicone sealant, adhesive or label residue.

Look at the packaging as well. An aerosol works precisely and quickly on spot work, while a can or a jerrycan belongs to floor work and to diluting in a bucket or a machine. Always check material compatibility on an inconspicuous spot before use.
