Hand pads and abrasive fleece for keying and derusting

A hand sanding pad is abrasive fleece without a hard backing: it follows the shape of the workpiece and finishes profiles, welds and round parts, exactly where sandpaper springs off the form. The grain sits in an open nylon structure, so the fleece hardly clogs and keeps cutting even through grease or paint residue. Trade users reach for one to key metal before painting, to take off surface rust, to loosen old coating and to give stainless steel an even finish.

Choose on grit and on format. Fine types work decoratively and leave an even satin appearance, coarser types take material away faster but mark deeper. Loose pads of 158 x 224 mm sit well in the hand and fold into a block. Rolls 100 mm or 125 mm wide tear off to the length you need, which saves waste on small jobs. Match the fleece to the rest of your sanding tools, and tackle internal diameters and pipework with a pipe brush.
