Permanent lifting magnets and crane magnets
A lifting magnet picks up ferromagnetic material without chains, slings or holes drilled in the workpiece. That cuts rigging time when moving plate, sections and round steel, and the material stays free of damage from lifting gear. In the cutting shop, the fabrication workshop and at the machine it is often the fastest lifting device to hand. A permanent lifting magnet works without power: a lever switches the magnetic field towards the workpiece or away from it.
That version needs little maintenance and covers the lighter loads, down to the compact hand magnet for one-man work. Larger versions hang under a crane hook and are rated in the hundreds and thousands of kilos. The rated capacity applies to a flat, clean and sufficiently thick plate. Rust, paint, roughness, an air gap or a curved plate cut the holding force sharply, so work with a generous margin and derate for anything less than ideal.
For hoisting itself, look at ratchet hoist, and for tools that have to stay hanging at the workstation at spring balancer.
