Screwdrivers with a permanent socket head

A nut driver has a socket head permanently fixed to a screwdriver shaft. You drive hex nuts and bolt heads one-handed with it, without a ratchet and without swapping sockets. In a distribution board, on a machine frame or at wiring level that works faster than a ratchet, as long as the nut is freely accessible and the torque stays moderate.

Sizes run from roughly 5 to 13 mm. Buy the sizes that come round in your work rather than a rough guess at the whole range. Beside the across-flats size, shaft length decides what you can reach: short models around 90 mm suit a cramped cabinet, while a shaft of 125 to 150 mm gets to a nut that sits recessed.

Look at the handle as well. A three-component grip with a wide head lets you apply more torque without your hand slipping. For hose clips there are versions with a slim head that passes between the hoses.
