Die holders to DIN EN 22568 in zinc alloy

A die stock, also called a die holder, clamps a round threading die and gives you the leverage to cut external thread by hand on a shaft, a bolt or a pipe. The versions here follow DIN EN 22568 and are made of zinc alloy, which keeps the stock light without the clamping giving way.

The size of the stock has to match the die exactly, outside diameter and thickness together, for example 30 x 11 mm or 45 x 18 mm. A die in a stock that is too large runs off centre and cuts thread that does not sit square to the shaft.

Watch the set screws as well. They centre the die and, on split dies, set the cutting depth, so you cut to size in two passes instead of forcing it in one. Phantom and Facom supply the range, in metric as well as inch sizes. For internal thread in a drilled hole use a machine tap, and the full range for threading sits alongside.
